In 1567 English composer Thomas Tallis contributed nine tunes for Archbishop Parker's Psalter, a collection of vernacular psalm settings intended for publication in a metrical psalter then being compiled for the Archbishop of Canterbury, Matthew Parker. One of them was on Psalm 67, called 'God grant with grace'. That tune is now known as Tallis' Canon.
Around 1674 English composer Thomas Ken added new words to this tune:
Glory to thee, my God, this night
for all the blessings of the light;
keep me, O keep me, King of kings,
beneath thy own almighty wings.
Dutch composer Johan Beeftink wrote a beautiful baroque trio on this tune.
