Hans Friedrich Micheelsen (1902-1973) started his career as church musician at St. Paul's Church in Brunsbüttel. From October 1933 to summer 1937 he studied with Paul Hindemith in Berlin. From 1938 to 1961, he was head of the church music department at the Musikhochschule in Hamburg. In 1954, he was appointed professor.
Micheelsen composed vocal music, organ music and instrumental works. His stylistic means range from simple tonality to twelve-tone technique. He composed the melody to the hymn "Tröstet, tröstet", spricht der Herr.
