German organist and composer Hans Uwe Hielscher (b. 1945) was educated in Detmold (church music) and Utrecht (carillon). After posts in Juist and Bielefield, he became the organist and carilloneur at the Marktkirche in Wiesbaden in 1979. Hielscher has maintained a very active touring recital schedule, performing thousands of concerts around the world. As a composer, he has published a number of organ works as well as some works of chamber and choral music. Hielscher has also published as an author of prose, including a biography of Alexandre Guilmant as well as the first comprehensive book in German about major organs in the USA.
