The third movement from Alain's Suite. In a letter (12 February 1935) to Marguerite Evain, he wrote about this movement:
‘The idea came to me to write a large chorale which would be like a huge façade and a pediment made of enormous blocks – a defense and illustration of my conception of the organ, with its tremendous masses and some heavy Herculean ascents embellished with clamors. Some sharp shadows, some great sun, and some wind… some wind…’
