Description:
Johann Adam Hiller (1728-1804) was a German composer, conductor and writer on music. He was also a teacher who encouraged musical education for women. He took lessons from Gottfried August Homilius. Later on in his life he even became cantor at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, the same position as Johann Sebastian Bach.

The prelude on ‘Ermuntre dich mein schwacher Geist’ is transcribed from “The Wöchentliche Nachrichten und Anmerkungen die Musik betreffend”. This journal appeared weekly in Leipzig from 1 July 1766 to 24 December 1770. Hiller was the editor, initiator and almost sole contributor. This piece goes without a named composer in the journal. It could be that hey are from Hiller himself, but this is only a supposition, there is no proof of it. This piece can be played like a trio, but the subtitle says it could be played on one manual as well.
