Description:
This fine and lively trio (with an Italian touch) on the hymn 'Herr Jesu Christ, dich zu uns wend' from the Leipziger Choräle appeared as composition when J.S. Bach worked in Weimar (BWV 655a). Years later in Leipzig, he reworked it into the piece (BWV 655) I recorded here. If you are looking for a nice addition to the Trio Sonatas BWV 525-530, this piece is certainly worth looking at. For the biggest part of the piece Bach uses the hymn melody as basic material for a lively trio setting. It's only at the end that the cantus firmus appears in full in the pedals.

I recorded the piece on the surround (test) version of the Heilig-Geist organ of Ottobeuren. No pedal couplers here, so the pedal bass may sound a bit softer, but is certainly present. To underline the appearance of the cantus firmus I pulled a 4' stop in the pedals at the end. By the way, when you look at a picture of the pedalboard of this organ you'll understand that it's impossible to play this piece on the real organ...

As conclusion a fine chorale setting by Bach on this hymn.
