Sample Set: 1730 Trost, Waltershausen, Germany
Software: Hauptwerk VIII
Genre: Baroque
Description:
Gottfried Kirchhoff (1685 - 1746) was a German baroque composer and organist. Together with Georg Friedrich Händel he received music education from Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow in Halle. After that he became Kapellmeister at the court of Herzog Philipp Ernst of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. After the death of Zachow in 1712 he applied, like Johann Sebastian Bach, for the former position of Zachow in Halle. In 1714 Kirchhoff became Zachow's successor. His tasks included playing the organ, repairing it, teaching students and directing the city choir. Kirchhoff left us many organ and keyboard pieces.
(based on the German Wikipedia)

Auke Jongbloed, the editor of the sheet music, about this piece:
"Kirchhoff gave it the form of an organ Trio with the choral melody as bass melody. It is a bit surprising how simple and straigthforward the piece is written. There is no ingenious counterpoint or complicated harmonic progressions to be found, just a three part texture that does it’s job as choral prelude very nicely."

I used the fine set of the Trost organ of Waltershausen, a real colour box which I'm still exploring (and probably will for a long time). In this case a simple registration, using a stop with a curious name, the Vagarr 8'. I tried an approach with two manuals, but since it isn't a strict trio, that didn't work for me.

I found two other recordings in the Concert Hall of this piece:
- Edo on the small Riepp: https://www.contrebombarde.com/concerthall/music/54123
- Auke on the big Bavo: https://www.contrebombarde.com/concerthall/music/37326

So we now we have three recordings on a South German organ, a Dutch organ and a Thuringian organ.
