Ernest Bloch (1880-1959) is a Swiss-American (US) composer as well as a music teacher, conductor and photographer. His 'Six Preludes For Organ have a wide stylistic range with an obvious influence of Jewish liturgical and folk music. The registration of all preludes should consist of foundational stops; the Vox Humana should not be used; Bloch calls for real "Organ" tone, rather than "picturesque color”. Essentially, I used diapasons, flutes and strings with sub- and super-octave couplings, but I always had the synagogue chants of the cantors and choirs as well as the warm sounds of the romantic synagogue organs in mind. I played the middle part of the 6th Prelude more broadly, almost as solemn sacred processional music (today is the feast of Corpus Christi). Bloch had a critical understanding of religion and said in a letter from 1899 that he was “neither a believer nor an atheist”

Die Registrierung für alle Präludien sollte aus Grundstimmen bestehen; die Vox Humana sollte nicht verwendet werden; Bloch fordert einen echten „Orgel“-Ton und keine „malerische Farbe“. Im Wesentlichen habe ich Prinzipale, Flöten und Streicher benutzt mit Sub- und Superoktav Koppeln, hatte jedoch immer Synagogengesänge der Kantoren und Chöre sowie die warmen Klänge der romantischen Synagogenorgeln im Ohr. Die Mitte des 6. Präludiums habe ich breiter gestaltet quasi als feierlich sakrale Prozessionsmusik (heute ist das katholische Fronleichnamsfest). Bloch hatte ein kritisches Verständnis von Religion und meinte in einem Brief von 1899, er sei «weder ein Gläubiger noch ein Atheist»
