Born Bad Hersfeld April 4th 1835
Died Kassel February 2nd 1911
Carl Rundnagel was born in Hersfeld in Eastern Hesse in 1835. Already at the age of 15 he became a pupil of the famous Kassel court conductor Louis Spohr. After the death of his teacher, he inherited his viola and, after a brief employment at the Cologne City Theater, worked from then on as "Königlicher Kammermusicus" (Royal Chamber Musician) and organist at the Court and Garrison Church in Kassel.
As the editor of Spohr's legacy works and as co-initiator of the Spohr Monument, he made a decisive contribution to the preservation of his teacher's memory. His compositions were quite widespread regionally in his time, but then unfortunately quickly fell into oblivion.
This music is from Album für die Orgel (Kühn, Adelbert).
