Description: | Paul Ritchie is a former organ builder (Church & Company, UK), and was organist and choirmaster at Cullercoats for more than two decades. Many organ compositions of Paul are influenced by Dutch organ music, as he is a regular visitor of The Netherlands to hear and play many beautiful instruments of this country.

He writes about this new composition:
"Variaties over Psalm 116' is the most recent in a series of variations based on Genevan psalm melodies which I have been privileged to have published by Spiritoso.NL. The melody assigned to Psalm 116 is clearly heard in each variation, with Variatie 3 presenting the melody in decorated style, and Variatie 7 presenting the melody as a Siciliano rather than in strict note values. Variaties 5 & 8 present the melody in canon. Psalm 116 speaks of the author's indebtedness to God, and his intention to serve him through sacrifice and thanksgiving. Therefore these variations mirror that quiet confidence without illustrating individual verses. It was my pleasure to dedicate these variations to my friend Peter ('Carillon')."
