Description: | Valentin Neuville (1863 in Rexpoëde – 1941 in Lyon) was a French composer who studied organ in Brussels and was organist at Saint-Nizier Church, Lyon.
His operas "Tiphaine," "Les Willis," and "Madeleine, L'Enfant, L'Aveugle" were performed between 1899 and 1909 in Belgium, Germany and Sweden with success, but he was not recognized in France where his Wagnerisms were not welcomed.
"Allegretto" was first published in Brussels circa 1892. It is dedicated: "A mon ami Alphonse Seutin."
It is, as I said in my "title teaser," "a real gem," and I think you'll see why I said this, but, you'll need to listen to find out! :-)
The score is attached below, as well as a photo of St. Nizier church in Lyon, where Neuville served as organist.
