Partite diverse sopra: Christ, der du bist der helle Tag BWV 766

The text for today's after-work recording is an earnest plea for protection during the night from the forces of evil. This type of prayer is of course quite common in Christian traditions, where one asks for protection during the night hours (when humans are most vulnerable) from the powers of evil and temptation, often personified as Satan.

"Ach lieber Herr, behüt uns heut
In dieser Nacht vorm bösen Feind;
Und lass uns in dir ruhen fein
Und vor dem Satan sicher sein."

As usual, I think Bach has worked wonders with very simple means. Two voices play against each other; one sharp and shrill, the other timid and soft.

In my opinion an absolutely HAUNTINGLY well written variation (Partita II).
