David Thompson (b. 1952) — Variations on “Brother James’ Air” (2021) for organ
David M. Thompson (b. 1952) was born in Detroit, Michigan and was educated at Kent State University, where he earned his BM, MA, and PhD degrees in music. Thompson chaired the music department at Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin where he taught music theory, history, American music, and composition. He has also taught at Ripon College. Thompson has published numerous musical works in different genres and has authored the book “A History of Harmonic Theory in the United States.”
