Description: | Emma Louise Ashford (1850-1930), was an American musician, organist, composer and music editor.
She was for many years organist and choir director in churches and a synagogue at Nashville, editor of the magazine The Organist, in which she also published this postlude for festive occasions, and won many prizes in various international song and hymn competitions. She wrote over three hundred hymns, some seventy-five sacred songs, duets and cantatas as well as numerous compositions for organ and piano. Emma Louise Ashford was a pillar of the local music world and internationally renowned. Her fame may have faded, but organists and choirs in the United States and elsewhere have kept her music alive. Because she always published under the name E. L. Ashford, many people then and now undoubtedly assumed she was a man.
