Description:
Galanterie
New organ pieces between late baroque and classical music

In music, the term “gallant style” (from around 1730) describes the period between the late baroque and classical periods, which is distinguished from the high baroque style by a certain lightness. A piece of music was considered gallant if it offered the listener pleasant entertainment, elegant diversion and pleasure and was suitable for passing the time. The focus was now on a simple movement structure and major keys, and independent pedal playing was largely relegated to the background. The same pieces of music were played with impartiality - in the sacred space on the organ in praise of God and in the profane space on other keyboard instruments for the amusement of others. From around 1780, Haydn's and Mozart's classical style was fully developed. With Beethoven, the classical period reached its culmination and Romanticism began to emerge.
