I noticed that Andrea Bonzi has sampled a small organ built by Paul Ott of Göttingen in 1972. After discussion with its owner, Gabriele Giunchi, I confirmed that it is indeed built by the very same Paul Ott that built Hugo Distler’s Hausorgel in 1938. Andrea Bonzi did a fantastic job of making the small organ sample set even more versatile than the original, descriptions of which are all available on his site:
https://www.hauptwerk.andreabonzi.it/pagine/005_BOLOGNA_OTT_english.html Also, Gabriel Giunchi informed me that the actual, physical organ is getting an added Subbass for the pedal as well as a Dulzian! With these added extensions, the organ will closely approximate Distler’s Hausorgel by Ott, despite it being a split one manual instead of Distler’s two manual.
As Distler’s organ music was the topic of my dissertation, I knew I wanted to try out this instrument. Andrea Bonzi, in a most gracious gesture, gifted it to me; I have at least three uploads planned for now that will showcase this sample’s versatility and sounds. For this first one, I’ve selected six miscellaneous pieces from Distler’s organ output. See the notes in the comments to learn what I experimented with so far.
