Telemann published the 36 fantasias for harpsichord in Hamburg. They all follow the three-part form with a contrasting middle section flanked by a repetitive introductory movement.
These little masterpieces can also be performed magnificently on the organ. Although of moderate difficulty, the harpsichord gfnatasias once again demonstrate Telemann's inexhaustible inventiveness. The ritornello of the D minor Fantasia is so gripping and brilliant that it immediately catches the listener's ear.
