Born in London, England, Roland Diggle (1885-1954) immigrated to the United States in 1904. In 1914 he began his 40-year tenure as organist & choirmaster at St. John's Episcopal Church in Los Angeles, California until his death in 1954.
While there are over 500 organ compositions to his name, he rarely appears on concert programs today. This short and fiery french-style toccata, dedicated to Alexander McCurdy, is based on the hymn tune "St. Theodulph" which is familiar to most as the Palm Sunday processional hymn,"All Glory, Laud, and Honor."
