Maybe you recognized that I like Mendelssohn very much. But not only his organ works but also his choral works. His oratory "Elias/Elijah" is one of my favourites. A few years ago I sung in a choir. One sunday we sung "He, watching over Israel, slumbers not" during service and the organist played the "orchestra" on the organ. This experience stayed in my head since then.
Last year I finally wrote an arrangement of this piece for a special equipped organ in our church, an organ with two consoles. So I had the opportunity to play something for what I didn't have enough arms and fingers ;-) A friend of mine an me played it and it worked very well.
For this Hauptwerk recording I had to play it all on my own. So at first I played the accompaniment. Then I replayed it, pressed "record" and played/recorded the "voices" of the choir.
