This is the relatively little known first bookend of the Three Pieces by Britten's teacher, Frank Bridge. Rather unfairly, in my opinion, less well know than the beautiful Adagio, but a pice well-deserving of much greater exposure.
It gives the Eule organ a chance to display it's English Town Hall credentials.
This sample set makes an interesting comparison with a sample set of real HNB organ of around the period the Eule is trying to capture, that of the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook.
Undoubtedly, Holbrook is a great instrument, but it lacks some of the orchestral colours of this instrument and, also, some essentials: Vox Humana, Swell Oboe and the extraordinary Solo Flutes that have been lost from so many rebuilds of HNB organs such as St Edmundsbury Cathedral.
I hope that you enjoy this little gem.
