Description:
John Keeble (1711-1786) was an English organist and composer who was born in Chichester. He studied with William Boyce and Maurice Greene, two leading English church composers of the 18th century.

Keeble was appointed organist of St. George’s, Hanover Square (London) in 1737, one of the city’s most prestigious churches. He was also active in musical societies and was known for his refined, expressive organ and harpsichord playing.

Keeble’s F minor Diapason Movement is especially admired for its melancholy lyricism, expressive suspensions, and elegant phrasing, comparable to works by John Stanley or William Boyce.
