What a deceptively tricky little piece this is!!! I thought that it would demonstrate the HNB style Solo 8' flute of this stunning organ perfectly so, here it is after what feels like hundreds of hair-lullingly infuriating takes later!!
There is a story behind why I thought that this was THE perfect piece....forgive some nostalgia...
As an early teen I spent many an hour page-turning for my teacher at various concerts and this piece was a favourite of his. One particular performance is etched deeply in my memory.
A glorious if somewhat temperamental Hill Norman and Beard 4 manual organ in a Victorian Town Hall - its Solo Flutes a thing of wonder (as are these!). Picture the stop key console,, Solo flutes at the treble end of the solo manual, teacher with fingers so long that ET's would look stubby and an insistence of playing on the Solo manual (why would you??). Anyway the performance had rather a lot of silence in it as his extraordinarily long fingers kept knocking the Harmonic Claribel off!
You probably had to be there.....but you can imagine
