| Description: | As those of you who followed my Franck series will know, I am a fan of recording the same piece on different instruments & seeing how the instrument speaks to the performer.
Having recently discovered Andriessen’s love of Franck, I felt compelled to try a rather more Franckian interpretation on a suitable instrument.
I bought Metz a little while ago, ostensibly to create the St Ouen hybrid, but I felt this was a disservice to what is a very fine instrument in its own right!
So, here we have a Thema met Varieties à la Franck.
If you’re interested here’s a bit on the registration. The theme is first heard on the Recit Fonds then the first variation is based on the registration of the cantabile in Franck 1 (I also thought a similar registration to the Adagio in GPS would be good, but, alas, no Cromorne). After the first reprise on G.P Fonds 16,8,4 R. Fonds et anches 16,8,4 adding the P. anches, we move to the “scherzo” registration from the Grande Piece Symphonique before adding the R.Trompette 8’ & building to the Tutti with Recit 8ve Grave. |
