"Erbarm dich mein, o Herre Gott" BWV 721

Have mercy on me, O Lord God
A piece of profound simplicity, the unadorned chorale melody appears as a solo above
a pulsating chordal accompaniment.

My original intention was to record on a suitable instrument in appropriate style. Honestly though, Van Doeselaar and the like play this so beautifully whilst I really struggled to make it work. I decided to abandon that idea & head for the more familiar territory of a pseudo-French romantic version.
That said, I have failed to be moved/convinced by the, what seems to me, over slow, over articulated versions that I have heard from players from Paris who I truly admire. So, here we have a Frankenbach hybrid which, I think, gives a really lovely demonstration of this new and rather stunning sample set (saving the fireworks for another time!).
I hope the organ convinces even if the performance doesn’t!
