| Description: | Johann Joseph Fux (c. 1660–1741) was a significant Austrian composer and music theoretician, and a renowned court Kapellmeister in Vienna under three Habsburg emperors. He left behind a wide-ranging opus of more than 600 pieces. His name, however, is primarily associated with his theoretical work *Gradus ad Parnassum*. His magnificent Baroque music is based on strict contrapuntal technique. He did not compose specifically for the organ, but his “Works for Keyboard Instruments,” a collection of sonatas, individual pieces, suites, and minuets, are intended for harpsichord and/or organ. Here are the Aria and Menuet from Suite I, FuxWV III.5.23.
