Walter Galpin Alcock (1861–1947), an English composer and organist who was knighted for his services to music. He held several prestigious positions, including professor of organ at the Royal College of Music, assistant organist at Westminster Abbey, and, from 1902, organist of the Chapels Royal. From 1916 to 1947, he served as organist and choirmaster at Salisbury Cathedral, where he carefully oversaw the authentic restoration of the famous Father Willis organ and contributed to technical improvements in the organ's action. Much of this can be gleaned from studying his well-thought-out teaching book “The Organ.” It concludes with six composed pieces, the first of which is heard here: Voluntary – Andante con moto in G major
