Composer: Whitlock, Percy
Sample Set: St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol BIS
Software: Hauptwerk VIII
Genre: Romantic
Description:
These delightful pieces make a lovely diversion after all the Franck & Vierne!
The three movement titles of Three Reflections (also published as Reflections: Three Quiet Pieces) are:
After an Old French Air
Pazienza ("Patience" in Italian)
Dolcezza ("Sweetness" or "Gentleness" in Italian)
These evocative titles reflect the introspective nature of the work. After an Old French Air has the character of a graceful, modal song, Pazienza is the most meditative and quietly expressive movement, and Dolcezza concludes the set with warmth, tenderness, and lyrical serenity.
This is my first outing on SMR & its particular colours suit these pieces admirably.
As a postscript does anyone else struggle to get the “perfect” settings for this organ when going full out??
I find that it can sound curiously electronic….any advice gratefully received.
