“Cursed Motives” (2009) is a work for open instrumentation. It consists of a series of motives which are interpreted by the performer(s) into a musical work. The composer writes: “These are all motivic ideas that I adore and have yet to work into a successful composition. Several of them have been used in different pieces but they have not found the right home yet. I don’t know if this is the right place for them, but here they are. The overall mood should be one of contemplation and tranquility.”
