Stanley M. Hoffman (b. 1959) — Crimson Sunset (2012) for organ
Stanley M. Hoffman (b. 1959) was born in Cleveland, Ohio and educated at Boston Conservatory, New England Conservatory, and Brandeis University. His primary teachers included Yehudi Wyner, Martin Boykan, Harold Shapero, and Arthur Berger. Hoffman has been Chief Editor at ECS Publishing since 1998.
This very brief, lush piece was written for a project of works of approximately one minute in length. The composer writes:
The rich colors in "Crimson Sunset" are inspired by words from the poem "Lament" by the eleventh-century mystic and writer Solomon Ibn Gabriol.
“Behold the sun at twilight time:
crimson, as though it clad itself in red.
It undresses the north and the south,
It envelops the west with violet.”
