Jouko Saari (b. 1944) — Prelude and Chorale (1970/75) for organ
Jouko Saari (b. 1944) was born in Sweden and educated at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland and Indiana University in the USA. He was music director of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra from 1978–84 as well as a guest conductor with all the major orchestras in Finland and Sweden. He has made recordings with the Finnish Radio Symphony and Swedish Radio Symphony since the early 1970s.
“Prelude and Chorale” (1970/75) is a work in two parts. The “Prelude” is broad and expensive; the “Chorale” is meditative, blending the style of a baroque chorale prelude with some slightly more contemporary harmonies. The tune is the Swedish hymn “In this sweet summer.”
