The Astoria Southend Compton sample set recreates the Astoria specification (the original specification before the additions at Wyton House), combining the original 11 ranks with the Melotone samples. Of course it cannot take account of any voicing adjustments that may have occurred between installation in 1935 and sampling at Wyton House in 2018. However the fact that the 21st century Tibia and Melotone trem rates still match is a good sign that not too much may have changed. The sample set features a colour changing recreation of the original Astoria illuminated surround, based on original pictures from the Astoria and detail from extant surrounds of the same design. There is one omission from the full Astoria specification, as this included a Solo Cello. The pandemic has delayed attempts to sample a Solo Cello, but we hope to do so once conditions allow and to retrofit it to the Astoria sample set as an upgrade. |
