From the composer: "This cycle of nine preludes and fugues (2011/13) explores this familiar genre in a variety of manifestations. The preludes explore varied musical characters, serving as foils for their fugues. The fugues likewise take different approaches to the formal structure; no two follow the same plan.
Prelude and Fugue No. 9 (2013) is dedicated to Harry Lyn Huff. The prelude begins with a grand chorale-like statement of it main material. This material is then developed over a pulsing accompaniment. The fugue’s subject is developed from the prelude and, following a contrapuntal treatment, the opening chorale returns to close the work."
