Description: | Yesterday, I received an unexpected surprise gift in my email from our talented member, Carson Cooman, who kindly sent me the organ works of Cedric Hargraves.
Cedric Hargraves (1921–2010) was born in Adelaide, Australia and lived in New Zealand from 1935. He studied the organ from 1939–41 with the prominent New Zealand organist Edgar Randall. Hargraves spent his
professional career as a pharmacist. Upon retirement, he composed a number of works for organ during the 1990s, both original and
hymn-based pieces.
"Rhapsody" IMMEDIATELY appealed to me, and made me wish it was longer, or that there were more pieces like it!
It made think of it in a way that I once heard the Chopin "Ballade in G Minor" described - as storyteller beginning a narration, and working through the tale.
The work is dramatic and expansive, but in a very compact way. The feel is "English," but the language and style are personal.
This "little" piece really grabbed me in a BIG way!
Due to copyright issues, I will not attach the files, but you can contact me if you are interested.
THANK YOU, Carson! Your presence on the Concert Hall is valued and appreciated!
I dedicate this upload to you with respect and friendship. :-) |
