Description: | Charles Grey (1849-1923) was born in Norfolk, England. His father was also an organist.
He taught at the London College of Music, and published quite a number of compositions, most of which are of a light nature.
"Festal March" was published by Schott in 1911. I'd like to say that it's yet another one of those "period pieces," and I guess it is, but this one is the type that sounds more like a grand circus march, as opposed to a grandiose postlude!
Still, it sounds good and is fun to hear and to play, and would probably be loved by your congregation if you did it as a postlude!
But, be warned! If you do this, they may want MORE THINGS LIKE IT! :-)
I've really done this piece so I could the MIDI file, requested by my good friend and our member, "1961 TC4ME". Marc, I hope you like it and find it enjoyable and useful!
Written in the key of C major, Grey puts everything in the most obvious of key centers. There is a softer middle section with the tune played upon the Choir Clarinette, and after the return of the opening material, there is a brief Coda.
Everyone leaves with a smile on their faces after you play this one!
The score is attached below, as well as the MIDI file.
Also, a photo Charles Grey is attached as well. :-) |
