Description: | Claude Debussy (1862-1918) is sometimes seen as the first Impressionist composer, although he vigorously rejected the term. He was among the most influential composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
His lifestyle was often controversial and complex, but I won't get involved in that discussion.
This work was transcribed by Gaston Choisnel (1857-1921) who was quite well-known for his transcriptions. I believe he was a friend of Saint-Saëns, and I believe he played the xylophone.
This transcription is part of a group of 12, published by Durand in 1911.
"Le petit Berger" is a VERY famous piece! However until I looked at it today, I had NO idea with this piece was, although I've heard it many times!
It is found in Debussy's piano suite, "Children's Corner," which was composed in 1908, and is the fifth movement of the six movement suite.
The St. Omer organ has wonderful sounds for this piece! The only problem is that it's almost impossible to "get very soft," but I've done the best that I could, and hope that the colors and feel of this will more than compensate for the slightly large dynamics!
The score is attached below, as well as 2 photos of Claude Debussy. |
