Description:
Sometimes people ask me for writing down the music of an improvisation. I usually don’t do that, because an «improvisation is an improvisation» and it takes much time to do so.
However: in 2010 I played and posted an improvisation on the CB, which I for some time ago wrote down as a composition. It’s the piece you can listen to here, a hymn from the Norwegian «Salmebok», very often used in funerals. The tune is also known in other countries, especially in the Netherlands and Germany.
I wrote it down as sheet music, because the structure is rather simple than complicated (but not easy to play) and it can be usable for funerals. In a comment in 2010, I wrote it was an improvisation «in a romantic popular style, with «alla Händel» elements».
Yes, I think still that’s what it is. There are several examples in music history of romantic composers inspired by Handel, creating a quasi baroque piece.
The improvisation from 2010 is now deleted from the CB, it’s now this one in stead of. Hope you enjoy it!
