R. Leonard Hollands (b. 1942) — Fanfare (from Colour Poems) (1962/64) for organ
English polymath R. Leonard Hollands (b. 1942) was educated in music, art, and architecture. He studied music composition at Morley College with Jeremy Dale Roberts and Harrison Birtwistle. His first career was in architecture and surveying, which he pursued until 1971, when he was ordained priest in the Celtic Orthodox Church. During his architecture years, he was also active as a choirmaster in churches where his late first wife was serving as organist. Always a serious painter, in 2003 Hollands returned to entirely art, becoming a full time painter. As a composer, Hollands has written a number of choral and organ works as well as two symphonies, two string quartets, and various other instrumental works.
