Description: | Durón Picazo, Sebastián. Brihuega (Guadalajara), (1660-1716).
Composer and organist.
Composer Sebastián Durón is one of the most outstanding figures in Spanish baroque music, especially for his contribution to stage music.
The first news of his musical activity is located in Zaragoza in 1679, as an assistant to Andrés de Sola.
Durón remained in Zaragoza for a short time, since at the beginning of 1680 he moved to Seville to compete for the post of second organist in cathedral there.
The fact that Durón, barely twenty years old got such a position demonstrates the solid musical training that Andrés de Sola received during his years in Zaragoza.
The next destination of Durón is the organistía of the cathedral of Palencia from December 1686.
In October, 1691, he informed the Cabildo of Palencia of his appointment as organist of the Royal Chapel.
Durón's works enjoyed wide diffusion and popularity, as evidenced by the numerous copies of his compositions in Spanish and Latin American music archives.
