One of my favorite pieces of French-romantic literature, Widor's fifth symphony opens with this striking movement that explores a theme and variations and the many colors and facets of the symphonic pipe organ.
This is recorded on the newly released 'Nancy' sampleset by Piotr Grabowski. (Yes I could not resist!)This is an incredible technological achievement - and will put any computer through its paces I have loaded the set with Front and Rear channels in full 24-bit quality, and the Close channels in 16-bit (to help with some clarity). The acoustic of the building is astonishing, and is perhaps one of the longest that I know of that is currently available for Hauptwerk.
The Close samples are surprisingly clear and dry (I may try uploading something with those for comparison at some point), but for now - enjoy Widor washing around the massive reverberant space of Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l’Annonciation et Saint-Sigisbert
