Introduktion und Fuge für Orgel über "Salve Regina", op. 23

Before I go on summer vacation, I want to present one more work on the Walcker organ in Papenburg:

Namely, a composer who was 50 years old at the time the organ was built and thus had experienced the taste of the time. His compositions are described as "balanced, naturally flowing and mostly polyphonic" (quote from Joseph Haas).

Here is a brief vita:
Otto Gauß (1877-1970) studied counterpoint, organ playing, and Catholic theology at the University of Tübingen (Germany) from 1897 to 1901. After his ordination in 1902 he became music repetent at the Wilhelmsstift in Tübingen and was responsible for the musical education of the theology students.In 1914 he became parish priest in Tigerfeld.
Within 30 years about 180 compositions were published by various publishers, mostly for mixed choirs: 20 masses (mainly a cappella), motets, Latin and German chants for the church year, plus a number of polyphonic songs for secular occasions. He also made a name for himself in the organ world as a publisher of organ compositions from old and new times.
