Takashi Sakai (1948–2019) — Air and Variations, op. 29-3 (1990) for organ
Carson Cooman, organ
Japanese composer and organist Takashi Sakai (1948–2019) was educated at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, and was active in Japan as a composer, organist, harpsichordist, and teacher. He was a professor for many years at Tokyo Junshin Women’s University. Sakai’s compositional style blends influences from Japanese folk music with the classical Western organ tradition. He wrote numerous works, primarily involving organ, but also many pieces for organ in chamber and vocal combinations.
