Sonate VI d-Moll („Vater unser im Himmelreich“)

Mendelssohn’s probably most famous sonata has been recorded several times for CBCH (and much better than I could), but not on this very interesting sample set. I play this piece in memory of my dear friend Samuel Kummer (56), the first organist of the rebuilt Frauenkirche Dresden/ Germany since 1945, who suddenly passed away April, 23rd. He was an extremely gifted organist, improviser (1), and teacher. This Sonata No. 6 was the last piece I studied with him during his last weeks. May he rest in peace!

Samuel Kummer’s first organ teacher, Prof. Bossert from Würzburg/ Germany, presented the Wender organ of Arnstadt in this outstanding youtube video (2) extensively. It was a great inspiration for me and for the registration as follows:
