Taking a detour from practicing for my recital, and decided to record this lamentation.
I attended an Irish music gathering over the weekend, and a friend gave me the sheet music for this piece by Davey Spillane of River Dance fame. It's an orchestral trio ensemble arrangement I more or less transcribed onto the organ.
Though written for flute, violin, and contrabass, I chose to play the melody on this organ's solo division using the orchestral oboe and vox humana in various combinations to more closely mimic the Irish bagpipes. And then the wonderful strings in the swell and choir divisions and subbass 16'/violone 16' were employed in the pedals throughout the piece in different combinations as well.
I'm going to say this belongs in the theater genre because you go to a show to see it, making it essentially Broadway/movie music.
