Composer: Charles Tournemire (1870–1939)
Sample Producer: Milan Digital Audio
Sample Set: Notre Dame de Metz Mutin/Cavaillé-Coll
Software: Hauptwerk VIII
Genre: Modern
Description:
This recording started out as just a fun exploration of the Metz sample set as I have never really spent much time with it. It quickly became a “let’s record the first four movements to go with the Paraphrase-Carillon I recorded on Nancy” & then, before I knew it I was recording the Paraphrase-Carillon too. It was interesting to note a different experience it was coming to it as a part of the whole….a rather more spiritual experience. What better day to do it than the day the Church is keeping the Feast of the Assumption (transferred from yesterday).

Here are some helpful notes provided by AI:

Charles Tournemire's L'Orgue mystique occupies a unique position in twentieth-century French organ music. Written between 1927 and 1932, the vast cycle comprises 51 liturgical offices and more than 250 individual pieces, organised according to the Roman Catholic calendar. Tournemire conceived the organ not simply as an instrument for musical display, but as a means of illuminating the liturgy: Gregorian chant provides the spiritual and melodic foundation from which the organ meditation grows.
No. 35, In Assumptione Beatae Mariae Virginis, celebrates the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Dating from 1928, the office is dedicated to Tournemire's friend and colleague Joseph Bonnet.
