Description: | No. 2 - Allegro comodo is a remarkable piece.
It also has a calm feeling to it, but it is very different from the first piece.
It is a gentle and diatonic work, over an ostinato in the left hand and a static pedal part. I find this piece to be very appealing, and while it "doesn't do much," it has a glow and serenity about it.
For registration, you're hearing mostly the 8'and 4' stops of the Swell, mostly with the Oboe, coupled to the 8' Stopped Diapson of the Great, with the Third Open Diapason added and removed a few times. The piece ends with the theme being played by the Cor Anglais of the Solo organ.
If you're famailiar with pieces entitled "Carillon" by some other English composers of the period, (the one by Herbert Brewer comes to mind), this piece is very similar. While I don't know this, I think that this is a carillon - but in the English manner, and nothing like the great French carillons of Mulet or Vierne.
It is dated, "October, 1905". |
