There are three pieces :
-
0:00 the infamous Sortie in e flat major, almost a polka.....
-
4:20 a Verset in G, which is a kind of a romance for a society salon of the 1860s. It shows the flutes and bourdon 8'.
-
6:30 a Pastorale in G. It shows the hautbois, and also some twitering by the "liquid"flute 4' solo (perhaps to evoke the birds).
The sortie is indicated "Allegro moderato" ; so the tempo is rather conservative until the indication "plus animé" (more animated) ; there, at
3:20 , the Merry-go-round goes mad :-)
As the present period is not completely joyful, some funny and carefree music can perhaps help to remain in fine spirits.....
