Description:
David Schelat (b. 1955) — Suite in C (Delaware Suite) (2006) for organ

1) Prelude-Hocket
2) Musette
3) A Little Fugue
4) Aria
5) Gigue

“Suite in C (Delaware Suite)” (2006) was originally written for a multi-composer anthology produced by the Delaware Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Schelat notes that the movements are based on forms and titles found in the English and French suites of J. S. Bach. However, each is re-imagined with the composer’s contemporary tonal (and modal) language.

American composer and organist David Schelat (b. 1955) was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and educated at Ohio State University, the Eastman School of Music, and Syracuse University. His principal teachers include Will O. Headlee, Wilbur Held, and David Craighead. Schelat has lived for many years in Delaware, where he has been Minister of Music at First & Central Presbyterian Church in Wilmington and an active participant in the state’s musical life. He has served as dean of the Delaware Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and is president and artistic director of Market Street Music. As a composer, Schelat has written numerous choral and organ works that have been published by Oxford University Press, MorningStar Music, Selah Publishing Co., and Augsburg Fortress.
