Calsen (1748-1822) was baptized in Neuenkirchen, a tiny village, but it had a remarkable organ tradition.
The organist there, Michael Schulte, also stood out as an organ expert.
Neuenkirchen received a new organ from Arp Schnitger in 1705
(as one of the very few in Schleswig-Holstein), but that was burned in 1729.
The replacement was built (1734-1738) by Johann Hinrich Klapmeyer.
Little is known about Calsen's life.
In 1786 he was appointed in Garding and received “as usual” 6 marks when he started work plus the moving costs of 12 Marks11.
This can not have been his first job because he was already 38 years old at the time.
He was probably the titular organist of the Garding St. Christian Kirche.
He died rather sudden in 1822.
