Norwegian composer Bjørn Sverre Kristensen (b. 1954) was born in Moss and grew up in Oslo. He studied at Oslo University and at the Norges Musikkhøgskole. After years a freelance musician, composer, critic, and broadcaster, in 1994 he became professor of music at Hedmark University College in Hamar. As a performer, Kristensen specializes in traditional instruments from Norwegian folk and ceremonial music, including the military drum (trommeslåtter) as well as the Hardanger fiddle. As a composer, he has written works for soloists, ensembles, and choirs.
