Pavana Lachrimae

That's a very first personal try in Sweelinck.

Pavana Lachrimae is an adaptation by Sweelinck of Dowland's pavana "Flow my tears" composed around 1595 (same theme as Dowland's seven famous instrumental pavanas called "Seven teares" -sic- or "Lachrimae"). Dowland's music often expresses a deep melancholy , and he somewhat mocked himself by composing a piece he titled by the pun "Semper Dowland, semper dolens" (always Dowland, always suffering).

Smecno's singing and restrained principal, flute and salicional (alternatively, not together) seemed adequate for this music's atmosphere. The temperament is meantone 1/4 of comma.
